Baikasai 2014: maiko Katsune and maiko Satohana by Motoyasu MATSUTANI on Flickr
Maiko Katsune is a senior maiko so she styles her hair in the ofuku hairstyle, seen above. She decorated her hair much simplier than junior maiko do: two pins at the both sides of her ofuku bun - one made of coral (used during winter and autumn) and other, silver, shaped in her okiya’s crest; a pale pink kushi (comb) made of the same silk petals as kanzashi, a kanzashi shaped in plum blossoms for February at the left side in front and one bira bira silver kanzashi with a pin of her own like on the right side. Ofuku literally means “a cloth” - you can see here clearly why!
